Astron Clinica has headquarters in Cambridge, UK, and a wholly-owned subsidiary in Australia, with distributors across Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Australia and New Zealand.

At Astron Clinica, their mission is to revolutionise skin imaging and help dermatologists, general practitioners and plastic surgeons to diagnose, analyse, and monitor skin health. Their unique, patented skin-imaging technology, SIAscopy, and the software platform that brings it to your computer screen, DERMETRICS, do just that. By looking 2mm beneath the surface of the skin and examine the main components of the skin – haemoglobin, melanin, dermal melanin and collagen – and provide a detailed set of images that add up to a powerful tool in diagnosis and monitoring. Non-invasive, quick, and simple to use, DERMETRICS turns a digital camera and a laptop computer into a state-of-the-art skin-imaging system.

What is SIAscopy™?

SIAscopy™ understands the way that light interacts with the skin; the manner in which it scatters or bounces, the amount absorbed by cells and other structures along with the different changes in wavelength or colour. By understanding these interactions and comparing the light sent into skin with light that comes back out, SIAscopy™ is able to determine the nature and position of many of the different components of the skin.

SIAscopy™ measures key chromophores within the skin, in particular haemoglobin, melanin and collagen. SIAscopy™ is also able to determine whether melanin is in the top layer of the skin, or whether it has moved lower down into the papillary dermis (dermal melanin).

How does SIAscopy™ work?

MoleMate™ uses the SIAscope V scanner. When the scanner illuminates the skin, some of the light is reflected and scattered from the surface. The remainder is transmitted into the top layers of the skin.

Varying fractions of the incoming light are then firstly absorbed by the melanin in the epidermis before entering the dermis, where they are absorbed by the haemoglobin in the blood vessels. Scattering also occurs in the dermis when the light interacts with the collagen, resulting in a portion of the light being remitted back to the surface.

By interpreting the combination of wavelengths that are received back by the SIAscope V, SIAscopy™ is then able to produce SIAscans; these are generated by referring to its proprietary mathematical model of skin optics. MoleMate™ is then able to present the user with the generated SIAscans for interpretation by the medical professional.

Beau Visage and Beau Visage+ See more of your clients

Beau Visage and Beau Visage+ are desktop skin imaging and client consultation systems that uses SIAscopy to allow therapists and aesthetic practitioners to see under the surface of the skin. They provide an ideal means of tracking before-and-after images of a client’s face to assess the impact of different products and treatments before changes can be seen with the naked eye.

Skin tone: the secret of a youthful appearance

For years, wrinkles have been the number one target for procedures to give a youthful appearance. But wrinkles are only one factor in the aging process. Scientific research has shown that an even skin tone can reduce the appearance of age by as much as twenty years.

When we are young we have an even, luminous skin tone. As we age our skin gets thinner, dull and skin tone becomes uneven or blotchy, making us look older. Beau Visage+ is unique in that it enables us to look at two of the skin’s chromophores: blood and melanin. Blood and melanin influence skin tone the most, and Beau Visage+ enables us to visualise and measure them, helping the aesthetic practitioner to choose therapies and treatments that harmonise skin tone.

  Beauty Timeline™

Seeing and believing change as a result of a treatment or therapy is not enough any more.

Beau Visage+ enables the practitioner to measure change using Beauty Timeline™ and share those changes with the client. Clicking on 2 images from different treatment sessions, Beauty Timeline™ generates quantifiable data that demonstrates temporal
effect.

With Beau Visage+ you will, for the first time, witness the effect of various treatments over time, helping you to manage your client’s treatments and beauty regime.

Fast and easy to use

For each consultation, and to supply Beauty Timeline™ with images, a maximum of 3 pictures needs to be taken of the client each time they come for a treatment. Beau Visage+ generates information for chromophore maps, sun damage score and skin health score.

This process is made simple using our elegantly designed tri-angle chin rest and camera mount that sits on a desktop and can easily be moved from room to room.

COSMETRICS+

Proof, in vivo, in seconds.

Astron Clinica’s latest product, COSMETRICS+, allows formulators to test and accurately quantify the effect of a product by extracting data from live skin. It presents the perfect solution to the challenge faced by manufacturers in the skin treatment/product markets, whose consumers increasingly demand proof on product claims.

COSMETRICS+ is the only single system currently available that can visualise and accurately measure living haemoglobin, melanin and collagen up to 2mm under the surface of the skin - "in vivo". It is powered by SIAscopy, Astron Clinica’s unique patented skin visualisation and measurement technology which gives an accurate, clinically proven* view of the structure of the skin.

COSMETRICS+ effectively channels the power of SIAscopy into the clinical trial, product testing and validation processes, radically shrinking the work and costs involved in proving the effects of products that interact with the skin and affect haemoglobin, melanin and collagen.

Turning live skin into live data

Data for COSMETRICS+ is gathered using the SIAscope V, a clinically proven* handheld skin scanner (that has been in use by the medical profession for years to assist in the diagnosis of skin cancer).

COSMETRICS+ captures discrete SIAscan images of each component at every scan. Each SIAscan captures data about the skin’s chromophores, haemoglobin, melanin and collagen.

COSMETRICS+ quantifies temporal changes between SIAscans capturing an exact image of the skin's appearance, and measuring the effect a product has on the skin over time.

COSMETRICS+ includes a flexible range of tools to help manage a trial from start to finish.

Analysis of SIAscan data captured in COSMETRICS+ is achieved using comparative analysis, allowing selection from an individual, sub-set, group, or whole trial.

Statistical analysis and graphing are included, as is the facility to export selected data from a trial in a platform-independent form, for additional analysis using other tools. Individual SIAscan images can also be exported for use in promotional materials.

COSMETRICS+ modular design means that bespoke modules can be added and Astron Clinica’s software team is pleased to quote for their development.
